Wooo, mama – another boudoir!

We are LOVING the boudoir sessions. Our moms – and they’ve all been moms, which is awesome – have been the bravest, most body-comfortable subjects, and we’re delighted that we opted to add these to our rep. If you’re interested, the half-price offer is still open to one more client – we said we’d do the first ten at a reduced fee, and we’ll happily take one more!

This time I met with Michelle, a mom of two, at her friend’s house – we had to be super sneaky and stay away from home because she had houseguests. (THAT would have been interesting to explain…) Michelle, just like the other models before her, was sassy, funny, and bold, and it was a great experience for all of us. I don’t think I’ve laughed that hard in a long time – when you can act like a supermodel with a photographer AND your best friend, the laughter is hard to stop!

Remember, these photos are of an adult nature, so please don’t click the slideshow link unless you’re quite sure that everyone at your computer is old enough to see them. There’s no outright nudity, but it’s pretty obvious that these aren’t your typical family portraits!

Believing in love.

Okay, we usually don’t like to talk politics – given that this area has a very wide range of belief systems, we prefer to let our own opinions be our own, rather than share them too much. But we’ve made a decision about this quarter’s photo specials, and while we hope that it doesn’t offend anyone, we think it’s an important one. Another photographer we know is doing this, and we’d like it to spread.

Until June 15 (the first anniversary of RBP, and the day we went to the courthouse and “made it legal”), ALL domestic partnerships will be eligible for a free 15-minute mini session. Gay, straight, childless or child-full: you define your family, and we’ll be there to shoot it. We’ve been together for a year, and we’ve seen some amazing examples of family during that time – we would be honored to celebrate your love with you, in whatever form it takes.

Obviously, there’s going to be some tricky planning involved here – ideally, we’re hoping to get several families back-to-back at one location. If you’re interested in doing this, please check your calendar and choose THREE dates on which you’d be available, and let us know where you are and how far you’d be willing to travel. Thanks!

And yes, this includes families with legally recognized marriages. WE BELIEVE IN ALL LOVE.

The Scoggins Kids :: Play Date :: Raulston Arboretum

Last week, I had the pleasure of meeting for the first time the Scoggins Family. This photoshoot was a mother’s day gift for mom Erin and boy was it a good one. It took a little warming up to me for the kids to get into it but when they did, we got some really great shots! You can tell whom the star in this family is! What a doll all the kids were. These are a few of my favorite shots from the morning!

The Vintage Travel Shoot :: Staged Shoot :: The Cotton Room

For those of you that follow the blog and the posts, you will recognize this princess. This is my 4th shoot with this little peach and her mama. She has warmed up to me more and more each time and this time we got the most smiles and the most opportunities of her looking right at me! Although, I still think some of the ones in which she isn’t looking at the camera are some of my favorites, my heart melts when I find in post processing that she was really looking at me like I thought she was!

If you have done a shoot with me before with your children, you may notice how chaotic they can get some times. Often a lot of running, kneeling, chasing is involved to get the best shots and sometimes just to keep the child in the general vicinity that you want them in. I feel the frustration of a lot of parents thinking “I don’t know what these pictures are going to turn out like because this is shear chaos! Post processing comes and I finally have a chance to look at everything and know that either we got it or we didn’t. The rare times that a re-shoot is involved when said child is just not having a good day does come but most of the time we get photogenic gold. I think a lot of these are just that!

This was the second “staged shoot” I have done with this princess. In October, she was Alice in Wonderland; now for a lack of a better title, I called this one the Vintage Travel shoot. It all started with the dress her mom found on e-bay and all the props stemmed from there. The red frame appearing to hang was actually hanging from my backdrop frame. Although I think that it was too big for this little one and it didn’t translate the way I wanted it to, I think I will try this one again. Two of the vintage cameras were her mother’s and one was mine. The trunk was actually on loan from Ms. Annie Harrison and the suitcases and chairs all came from an antique store.

I love staged shoots and I can’t wait to do more of them in the future! You have an idea for the shoot, let me know and we will round up the props! It all starts from a vision of one person and goes from there.

Liz & Victor :: Maternity :: Duke Gardens

The dad-to-be in this sessions’ photos, I have known for years. Victor was a new doctor when I first met him. I knew him pre-dating and marrying his now beautiful wife Liz and I was so thrilled when they asked me to photograph their maternity session. They are expecting a little one to arrive before they know it and they wanted to capture how absolutely stunning Liz is.

This is their first child and unfortunately shortly after baby Da Costa’s arrival they will be leaving for Detroit, MI for Victor’s fellowship. I am so sorry to see this family leave because I would love to photographically chronicle the little ones first year but I did get to chronicle Liz’s pregnancy.

We started when there was a positive pregnancy test but no baby bump taking pictures and every 3-4 weeks we have taken pictures of the growing belly. We have one more session in a few weeks and then I will be able to put the finishing touches on Liz’s “pregnancy progression” photograph so keep an eye out for that.

They also wanted a session at Duke Gardens when the spring flowers started to appear and so this is a few of my favorites from their maternity session last week. We got there just when the wisteria was starting to appear on the arbor at the top of the stairs. These two make everything look easy and effortless. They are so in love with each other and with the new little one that they haven’t met yet!

Thanks again guys for allowing me to capture such a beautiful time in your life! I will miss you guys and meeting the little one but a picture is worth a thousand words (or so I try to tell myself when I am shooting) and so I am looking forward to seeing him grow up through pictures and facebook posts!

Love for Miss Miller :: Baby Dedication, Goldsboro, NC

I was delighted to share a morning with a terrific family in Goldsboro last weekend – the newest baby in the clan, little Miss Miller, celebrated her church dedication on a beautiful sunny day. The clouds parted just after her ceremony, and the family celebrated with drinks and snacks in the courtyard. Precious adorable William turned one recently and we celebrated with cake and pictures! My kind of party! Here are a few of my favorites from the recent session! Hope you enjoy and this is the first use of the blue backdrop with white stripes. Dubbed “The William” it is a great backdrop for boys and girls but you must be “regal and sophisticated” to pull off sitting in front of this dapper backdrop!

Alice is One :: First Birthday Party :: Morrisville, NC

This was a very special birthday for one very special girl that also included one very special visit by a food truck; Only Burger! I was very excited to be asked to celebrate with the Crandall-Griffin family Alice’s first birthday! We first met this family for Christmas pictures back in 2011 and boy has my little girl grown up so much! Look for a cameo of the previous family session over the mantel in the living room. It makes me soooooo happy to see my work displayed in my friend and clients’ homes. I loved this shot of Ms. Alice coming out of the basket and it looks sooooo awesome blown up on a canvas mount! We got some cute pictures of Alice celebrating with her parents and friends at her first birthday. Thanks so much for a great day, a great burger and a great time! Looking forward to catching up with you soon!

We’ve really expanded the calendar this year, so in an effort to keep our clients better informed, we’ve added an events page to the site. While we’ll continue updating our Facebook page with events as they pop up, you can always check here to learn more about what’s coming up in the next few months.

Meet us on March 24 for mini sessions and open play at Morrisville’s fabulous indoor playground… Your registration includes 1.5 hours of playtime and 30 minutes of photo time on our fabulous new backgrounds.
