When we opened the Red Bridge Raleigh Studio in March, we knew that we would shoot newborn sessions in there a lot. Mostly because we have SO MUCH stuff required for a session and it was great to have it all there for when we would need it. We knew that the space was perfect for these specialty sessions but we also wanted the space to work for kids up to the age of one so that we could do sessions inside when the weather was less than ideal outside.
That is just what the new studio has done for us. Daniel’s birthday is in December and those milestone sessions are hard to do if you do not have a studio option because the weather anywhere is so very hard to predict in December let alone to depend on having an outside on location shoot. Well, I am so glad that we do have it because the day of Daniel’s one year session it was rainy and cold in Raleigh, NC and since we had the studio, the session could go on just as planned! It is often difficult to get all the studio stuff into people’s homes because they have stuff too and moving all the stuff to make room for the studio is often a challenge.
Daniel and is parents came to visit me to celebrate his first birthday and I was so glad to be included in it! His mom had bought some specialty outfits for costume changes and also a great hat and diaper cover combo with suspenders for his cake smash and a few of just him. I LOVED the natural colors and how it brought out his eyes so well.
The word “smash” for this session is a bit of a misnomer as Daniel wanted NOTHING to do with his cake. He did sit near it and put his finger in but eating it was not an option and after we thankfully got a few shots of him with the cake and we tried to make it look like he at least got into it a little bit, he started crying! WHAT?!?!? There is NO CRYING on birthday’s!
And then we put him into the bath. Quickly becoming one of my favorite set-ups. His parents said he LOVED the bath…….. Surely, he would love it!
Welp, he cried for the first five minutes he was in there and then; SNAP! He LOVED it! Boy am I glad he did because there are only a handful of crying baby pictures that I ever find remotely cute. Then we let him play away and then the smiles came back!
Oh, Daniel! I wish you the very best for your first year and hope to see you and the parents again real soon!
Enjoy a few of my favorites from this great one year milestone session!
