This is a session all about making lemonade out of lemons. We had 2 possible days for this session to happen as all the family was in from out of town for the July 4th holiday and of course in turn NC weather fashion we happened to have 2 really, really wet and rainy days. We pushed from one day to the next with hopes that day 2 we may luck out with the rain stopping in the morning or shortly after and well – game time comes and it is still pouring. SO we moved to the families home in Durham where everyone was staying and imagine my surprise and (cue happy dance) when I walked in to see floor to ceiling windows in the family room!
I think my words were here; right here. YES! So we did some more formal pictures there and then had some smaller groupings in 2 places around the house which I LOVE being able to do more lifestyle images – because it doesn’t happen often;)
Then my plan was to have them stand on the front porch being protected by the rain and I would just stand there and get soaked since I wasn’t IN the pictures and well what do you know – it stopped raining! Just long enough for some beautiful pictures on the front porch! AND there is a whole series of the family standing next to the American flag – very perfect since it WAS July 4th when we did this – and the dad in this family is a veteran! I love the series where a big gust of wind came up and made the flag cover the family briefly – it was almost as if it was saying – hey this day is about me y’all!
We chanced it and went to a small pond and natural walkway in their neighborhood for a different background of some images. It turned out perfect. Talk about a challenge in finding good light! We found the perfect little opening so I could get some good diffused through the clouds light on them and then some more magic happened!
I love this session and this family did absolutely awesome! It was such a joy to get to spend my morning with them and hey – I hope that little Joe finally proposed because y’all these two are adorable together;)
