I have so enjoyed getting to know this fantastic couple over the past few months as we prepare for their wedding. We have had such great sessions leading up to their big day and this one was no exception. Kate was gorgeous. I will never forgot when I walked into the Arrowhead Inn Bed & Breakfast in Durham for the indoor location for her bridals – she was so stunning that I focused JUST on her and missed that there was a step up between the room that she was in and the room I was in and I totally busted my foot and tripped up the stairs. Ah, such is my crazy clumsy life! AND so glad I didn’t have my camera on me yet!
We started at the location where she had her bridesmaid party the previous month and it was a very good stand in for the location that she would be getting married at. We did venture over to the second location which was Ayr Mount for some portraits however we were not allowed to shoot inside of the building on that day and therefore we just had to go with it. We found some great locations throughout the Inn and probably my favorite was the front door spot as well as just when we were getting ready to leave there was a large window in the master bedroom with a perfectly placed large mirror that gave me the perfect reflection. Those are truly some of my favorites.
Without a doubt the one that comes to the front of my mind in terms of favorites from this session is when Kate mentioned that she wanted a shot of her with the veil over her face and she also loved this nearby magnolia tree. We walked over and the light was perfect. Perfect golden hour lighting. Then she went to put the veil over her face and that was when I saw the shot incorporated all three into the mix. I preferred her face without the veil directly over it and this was the moment. We did take some time to recreate it and pose some more but the first out of the bunch is definitely my favorite.
Also of mention – it was 35 degrees outside for most of the out door session and Kate was a TROOPER! You can’t even tell that she was frozen like a popsicle so much that I had to help her change out of her dress because she couldn’t feel her fingers. BUT you can see all the love she has for Julian and I can’t wait until their wedding this May!
Thank you so much Kate and your mom for a great session! I LOVE so many of the images from this great bridal portrait session and I hope you feel the same! I can’t wait to see you on Derby day when we celebrate your wedding!
