This session – I am rarely without words (y’all know) but this session is everything a spring family session should be. It was the perfect weather and the perfect place – I LOVE Duke Gardens so much I am a member photographer – but lets be honest – lots of people love Duke Gardens and weekend sessions there are often filled with me trying to avoid getting people in the background and dodging and moving to get the best places. It is a beautiful place, I get it – but to get large scenic shots there is hard.
This family was thankfully able to meet me on a Tuesday morning at Duke Gardens and really I think other than us the only people we ever saw were the gardening staff that were working hard to keep the gardens pretty. The arbor at the top of the stairs is always a favorite but it is also a large entrance point to the tiered garden so lots of people enter there so they can marvel at the beauty that is the gardens. It is a perfect place both ways to view the gardens and I always had the concept in my mind that I was finally able to do of two parents holding up their baby at the top of the stairs but the gardens had always been too busy to even attempt to accomplish it.
Well, this day was different – perfect family, perfect day, perfect weather and y’all know I love me some sun flare. Liam was an absolute trooper and well he let us know when he needed a snack break but other than that – this kid was so smiley and playful!
One of my favorite shots was in a place of the gardens that I don’t often visit because it can be somewhat damp because it is so enclosed by trees on 3 sides and it was a little damp from recent rains on this day but I knew I wanted to try it. I had this vision for this shot a long time ago and well – this day I was able to accomplish two shots that I had always wanted to try at Duke.
Y’all enjoy all that this beautiful family brings to your screens because – wow – THANK YOU Satterwhite Family and I really loved every moment of our session and I hope to see y’all more as Liam grows!
