I love being able to catch up with families once a year for their annual portraits. Most families want to meet in with the spring or fall annually this is a fall family. We had so much fun at Raulston Arboretum last year and we wanted to continue touring the beautiful parks of the triangle so this year we opted for Yates Mill Pond. Thankfully, it was very early in the fall portrait season as well as early in the morning so the park was fairly empty. This particular park gets so insanely busy in the fall and specifically on the weekends because of all the photographers taking their families out to the park for pictures. AND this one has about 10 different places throughout the park that are very popular to be used so we all sit and wait at each spot. This session though, thankfully we didn’t have many others to compete with for our session.
AND what a beautiful session it was! It was a beautiful day – that was until the last section. The girls did amazing; as usual. They are so bubbly and adorable. AND I love that their parents let them be free and expressive even with their hair colors! AH, I do love it when kids are allowed to pick how they want to express themselves in clothing and outward appearance items. There are limits but a cool hair color isn’t one of them.
Aswe were wrapping up the session, we walked over to a grassy area that was near the parking lot and I was just going to have them sit amongst the grass on a blanket that I brought. While we were taking the series of pictures, I started feeling a stinging on my right foot. After the pictures I look down and see that I stepped into a fire ant hill/mound and they were all over my feet! AHHHH. I got stung 12 times on one foot. Even rinsing my foot off in the parking lot and immedately applying some benadryl cream to my foot that I happened to have in the car didn’t help my foot. It eveutally was so swollen it was 1.5 times its normal size with all the inflammation and I couldn’t walk on it for the better part of a week. Elevation really didn’t do much good – I really needed to constantly keep anti itch creams and neosporin on it to keep the pain, inflammation and infection at bay.
What a crazy experience that was and I am just so thankful that I was the one that got bit and not the family. Anywho, thanks for another awesome Raleigh Family session Intriago Family! I can’t wait to see you again in the fall!
