This little peanut – well he gave all of us a little scare on his entrance into the world. I have known Graycen’s mom since well years – I was her preceptor when she started on the unit that I worked on as a nurse. She stayed for a few years and then got accepted to CRNA school in Virginia – she moved to VA and shortly after met her now husband. They were expecting their first born and I was beyond excited when mom Liz asked me if I would consider coming to Richmond to do their maternity and newborn pictures. I jumped at the chance.
We set the date for my usual – around 7 or 8 months for the maternity session and the newborn session is on the due date. Well, I was acutally shooting a rehearsal for a wedding that I had the next day when I get a strange facebook message from Liz. That although, we had our maternity session scheduled for that coming Tuesday – Graycen had other plans. At the time, she wasn’t sure what was going to happen but it may just be the case that Graycen was coming that night and REALLY early for his due date.
The following day, I did get a message from Liz that Graycen had in fact already arrived. He was doing well but in the NICU as he was very premature. She was well but that maternity session we had booked for Tuesday – well, it wasn’t going to happen. I was super bummed but what was 10,000 times more important – was that Graycen and Liz were doing well and she would let me know when she knew more.
I think a few weeks went by and the Liz had an inkling that it may be almost time for Graycen to be discharged from the hospital. So, it was time to talk newborn session!
I made my way up to Midlothian which is just outside of Richmond to their home and as typical for a home newborn session – I essentially end up moving in with all my stuff to set up shop. They had a fantastic area upstirs in their home with the perfect grey colored walls and the light was amazing. We did some pictures of the parents with Graycen there and then we had the beanbag set up in the family room. It was really perfect. He smiled so very much and gave us some amazing images.
I am so very pleased with the results! So – without further adeau – Welcome to the world Graycen! I can’t wait to watch you grow!
