More and more I am getting asked to do more of a lifestyle newborn session as opposed to a posed studio newborn session. Even when I do sessions at peoples homes, I actually really encourage a portion of the session being done in this style just because it is so much more personal than a studio session.
In the case of Keaton, she was 7 weeks by the time I was asked by her parents to photograph them at their home and really at that time the only option we had was a lifestyle session. I hate to say she was an old newborn but by then, being out of the 14 day since birth timeline of a typical newborn session and I have pushed it as far as 22 days before and been successful – newborn sessions after that it is much more difficult to get the posed baby shots because they have more tone by then and are a little more aware of their surroundings then they are when they are newborns.
When I showed up for Keaton’s newborn session she instantly was very unhappy with the process – but after some lunch and some soothing she went right to sleep and slept through most of the rest of the session. She even got so asleep that she gave us some smiles! THAT is a miracle within itself.
We did some portions of the session in her nursey which are always some of my favorites. We even got the family dog in on some of the pictures as she joined us outside for some pictures.
It really was a great session and Keaton is so precious and so very lucky to have two great parents as she does!
Enjoy some of my favorites from this great session and I hope to see you more and more as you grow peanut!
